This is one of the epic scenes from my fav Oscar winning movie – @savingpfcryan which starred @tomhanks in the pivotal role as Captain John H. Miller.

In this scene, while he is trying to blow a bridge which is a crucial linking point, he is hit on the chest by a bullet from the very German soldier whose life he had saved earlier. As he slumps besides an abandoned motorcycle, he pulls out his pistol and defiantly shoots at a german tank approaching the bridge. The tank eventually gets destroyed at the same time by a P51-Mustang that appeared on-time to destroy the targets.

The battle and the mission is won but Miller eventually loses his life. Before he breathes his last, he utters, “James…earn this. Earn it” to Private Ryan.

This scene stirred me up. Tom Hanks’ portrayal of Cpt. John H. Miller was very much human and perfect. His defiance and never-say-die spirit made the character more lovable. No wonder this scene teared me up and influenced me to sketch this. .
